Design Studio I
Course Description Through assignments primarily executed in black and white, students develop an understanding and appreciation of the possibilities of the design vocabulary. Assemblage and paper construction are introduced to assist in the development of hand skills.
Interaction of Surface and Edge
The purpose of this assignment was to refine my understanding of fundamental design principles such as movement, form, and the interaction of shape faces and edges. It aimed to develop my sensitivity to composition and achieve color balance throughout a design. Through this focused exploration, I gained valuable insights and skills that enable me to create visually engaging and harmonious compositions.
Interaction Across a Three-Dimensional Surface
This assignment served to further refine and apply crucial skills in a three-dimensional context. It aimed to intricately align the edges of the vehicle with the edges found within the design's shapes. The resulting piece is not only visually captivating but also functional—in the form of a reversible and reconstructable cube.
Reimagining Texture
The objective of this assignment was to elevate observation to new heights. Its purpose was to cultivate the ability to keenly observe subjects, enabling us to translate them into our drawings and mold their form to align with our creative vision.
By honing this skill, we unlocked the transformative potential of capturing the essence of what we see and imbuing it with our own unique ideas. This assignment empowered us to bridge the gap between observation and artistic expression, fostering a deeper connection between our perception and the world we recreate on paper.
